UDAIPUR: An undertrial woman prisoner was found hanging in one of the bathrooms at the central jail here in the wee hours of Saturday. Mangibai (44) was found hanging from a supporting rod in the jail bathroom at 4.15 am, police said. Mental stress was assumed to be the reason behind the suicide, according to other inmates.
The
incident came to light when an inmate peeped through the grills after
Mangibai failed to respond to calls. Jail guards were informed who
rushed to the spot and pulled down the body.
The
prisoner had used a long piece of woollen shawl she was wearing to hang
herself. While the bathroom roof just had an average height, having
built with caution to prevent such incidents in prison, the neck bones
were found fractured during postmortem probably caused by the jerk when
she jumped to hang herself to death.
The
deceased was a murder accused and was lodged in jail for past 8 months
under Section 302 and 204 of the IPC, said Kailash Trivedi, jail
superintendent. Mangibai was a native of Suvato ka Guda, a village near
Saira in the district and she was facing trial for murdering a man from
her village. She was undergoing huge mental stress presumably due to the
monotonous jail schedule and the long trial proceedings.
The
prisoner's body was sent for postmortem in the morning and after
completion of formalities, handed over to her family members. A judicial
magistrate is investigating the case.
Therefore it is kind request
- To conduct an inquiry in this incident of custodial death under section 176(1)A Cr.PC by a Judicial Magistrate
- To provide compensation to the victim's family.
Thanking You
Sincerely Yours
Rohit Kumar
