Family members and locals continue their protest | EPS
Though more than 48 hours have passed since Krutibash Mohapatra died in police custody, his body is yet to be cremated as the stand-off between the family members and the Commissionerate Police continued on Sunday.
With the police adopting an indifferent approach, the family members and locals continued their agitation along with the dead body at the Energy police station for the second day, demanding action against the police officials who were responsible for the death of Krutibash. Foul smell engulfed the police station premises as the body started decomposing.
Police authorities, on the other hand, did little to diffuse the situation by persuading the agitators to take the body for cremation. While DCP, Cuttack, Praveen Kumar did not come up with any explanation on the issue, other senior police officials conceded that they were waiting for the post-mortem report. Any action would depend on the findings of the post-mortem, they said.
However, Krutibash’s family members and locals stated that they would not budge until their demands are met. Besides action against police officials and compensation of Rs 20 lakh, they have demanded a job in CESU for one of the kin of Krutibash.
Krutibash, the son of Charan Mohapatra, was taken into custody by the Special Energy Police on Friday in connection with theft in the Central store of CESU at Choudwar Thermal colony.
He was working as a security guard in the colony and was accused of involvement in the theft along with four others.
He was called to Jobra police station on February 28 for questioning and again on March 1.
He had reportedly gone to the police station in the morning of March 1. In the evening, his family members received a call from police informing that he was admitted to the SCBMCH. When they reached the hospital, he had passed away. While police have claimed that he had committed suicide by consuming poison, family members have questioned how he could do that while being in police custody.
Therefore it is kind request

1.  To conduct an inquiry in this incident of custodial death under section 176(1)A Cr.PC by a Judicial Magistrate.
2.  To provide compensation to the victim's family.
3.   To ensure Videography of the Post-Mortem Report of the victim & the same is informed to NHRC.
4.  To inquire the reason for the death of several prisoner through tuberculosis.
Thanking You

Sincerely Yours
